Created in 2015, Velo Francette is a marked cycleway that lets you bike from the channel ferry port at Ouistreham (famous for Pegasus Bridge and the D-Day beaches) all the way to La Rochelle on the Atlantic coast of France. Better still, it runs right through our Loire Valley, crossing the Loire a Velo cycle-way at Saumur.
This is why France is one of best places in the world to cycle or enjoy a biking holiday.
Velo Francette travels through the French departmnets of Manche, Mayenne, Maine et Loire (our dpeartment) and Charante-Maritime. You will pass the large towns of Caen, Laval, Angers, Saumur and finish in La Rochelle so there is a good mix of countryside and towns to keep your interest up.
Some of the treasures on the way include the famous Port-Salut Abbey, the hills (oh no!) of the Mayenne, the national stud at the Isle Briand estate and crossing the Vicoin valley.
If you fancy a cycling holiday in France in an area that Velo Francette passes through then try one of our Cycling Holidays here at Loire Life Cycling Holidays. You will be able to enjoy the delights of Saumur and the Anjou Tourraine region.
