Loire Valley Discovery Cycling Tour – Cuisine

A major part of our cycling tour is the cuisine – another passion!

We love planning seasonal menus, browsing the local farmers’ markets for fresh produce and even growing some of our own organic fruit & veg. Over the years the food has become as important on our Loire Valley Discovery Tours and short breaks as the cycling!

Our recipes have a regional french feel, whether it’s adding a local Saumur wine to a jus, or simply selecting local cheeses for the cheese board and more often than not a sneeky splash of an Anjou liqueur to a dessert!


Breakfast consists of an extensive continental buffet with a selection of breakfast cereals, porridge, granola and muesli, French pastries, toasts, speciality bread, jams, meats, cheese and yoghurts.

Daily, we also prepare a fresh fruit salad accompanied with a variety of dried fruits and nuts.

Fruit juices, ground coffee, hot chocolate and UK sourced tea is also available.

Breakfasts are a relaxed affair with people helping themselves and brewing drinks – it’s part of the ‘our home is your home’ philosophy.


Each evening we’ll create a delicious four course meal, freshly prepared from top quality produce.

Everything you eat is ‘fait maison’ – ‘home made’ and wherever possible we use fresh seasonal ingredients from local market gardens and free range meats and organic produce.

Best of all, we aim to include our own home grown, organic vegetables and fruit, whenever they are ready for eating.

The meals are a social event with all our cycling guests eating together, recounting their day’s adventures!


Courguette rolls with pine nuts and rocotta and a balsamic dressing.


Fresh roast cod fillet, served on a bed of home grown leeks, lardons and fresh mint peas à la crème.

Vegetarian: Roast peppers stuffed with boursin and spicy beans.


Home baked Frangipan Tart with crème fraîche.


Salad with homegrown beetroot and salad potatoes, feta cheese and local walnut oil.


Hot Toulouse sausages with a tomato, caper and shallot salad and grilled courgette.

Vegetarian: Five spice baked aubergine with garlic cashew nuts.


Frosted seasonal red fruits in a hot white chocolate sauce.

Apéro, Wine & Cheese

Each evening meal includes an apéritif, 25cl of wine and the option to purchase further carafes or choose from our selection of local wines – all sourced direct from local growers and selected by ourselves (we love wine tasting here in the Loire!).

We also enjoy bringing out the cheeseboard and through the week we’ll take you on a tour of France’s cheeses.  Always served before dessert and at the same time we talk about the planned cycle route for the following day.


Throughout your time at Le Gue de Ray you are able to prepare teas, coffees and hot chocolates whenever you like – perfect for when you return from your cycle and just want to put your feet up and relax.  There may even be some biscuits in the tin!  It’s just another way of making your Loire Valley Accommodation a home from home.
