French Cycling Holidays – Questions & Answers

Answers to frequently asked questions

When you cycle with Loire Life Cycling you get our local expertise and knowledge throughout your stay.

Here are answers to the most commonly asked questions.

Do I need travel insurance?

Yes – you need to be able to provide us with proof of your travel insurance, which needs to cover you for cycling whilst on holiday, medical expenses and repatriation to your home country.

We recommend taking out a travel insurance policy at the time of booking your holiday.

Is it best to bring my own bike or use yours?

We are able to provide good quality bikes, sized according to your needs and impeccably maintained.  People always feel more at home on their own bikes and so it’s no problem to bring your own.  We are happy to fit your pedals and saddles to our bikes to make your cycling more comfortable.  See our section on bikes.

Can I start your cycling holidays on any day?

The Loire Discovery Cycle Tour starts on a Sunday and our Loire cycling breaks start on a Monday. We can be flexible on our  Bespoke/Group Cycling Holidays, subject to availability.

How fit do I need to be?

No matter how easy and relaxing the cycling terrain is here, cycling is a physical activity so you need be fit and comfortable with the distances covered on your chosen tour.  So, for our Loire Cycling Tours you would need to be comfortable with cycling around 45 kms each day.

Are you accessible if I’m arriving from outside Europe?

Definitely. It’s possible to catch the high speed train (TGV) at Charles de Gaulle Airport (Paris) to St Pierre des Corps station in Tours.  Change train at St Pierre des Corps for Saumur (you don’t even need to change platform) which is a further 25 minutes.  We can then arrange a transfer to us at Gue de Ray.  Click here for more details on how to get to the Loire Valley.

What should I wear?

Lightweight, layer based sports clothing suit our conditions. Proper padded cycling shorts really make life easier and get the best you can afford!
Rain/wind proof tops and lightweight trainers are also advisable. Bring your cycling shoes and pedals if you have any – we’re more than happy to fit them.

What the most useful item I can pack for my cycling holiday?

If you cycle regularly then bring your saddle. Just the saddle, you don’t need to bring the seat post. Detached from your bike its not that big and doesn’t weigh much, but will make you feel so much more comfortable on your rental bike! We’ll fit it for you when you arrive.

What happens if the weather makes cycling impossible?

On our Loire Valley Discovery Tours we will take you to a local attraction or head out for some wine tasting.  We will ensure that the day is not wasted!

What payment options do you offer?

We are able to accept credit card payments (VISA or MasterCard) or a direct bank transfer.
