Loire Bike Route – Langeais
Cycling to Beautiful Langeais
We spent a lazy Sunday morning in Langeais and to be honest, I’d forgotten how beautiful it is. The outdoor market was in full swing so there was a lively atmosphere.
This Loire Valley Bike Route takes our cyclists through boar and deer filled forests lined with hunting platforms. There is a mid way coffee stop at the Epicerie in Continvoir before heading along the sheltered Roumer valley into Langeais, passing beautiful roadside houses dating from the 15th century.
Langeais has the castle of course and behind it large grounds and the oldest castle keep in France (990AD). On a Sunday there is a great market and everyday you’ll find plenty of restaurants, bars and coffee shops to keep a cyclist fed.
On the way back you can also stop at the Chateau de Gizeux, still owned and lived in by the ancestral family and once home to a Renaisance art school. There are frescos painted on the walls with a fascinating history. There is a coffee and tea rooms at the Chateau – and a bar in Gizeux itself.
