E-Bikes on our Loire Valley Cycle Tours
We picked up Loire Life Cycling’s first E-Bikes this week and immediately gave them a ride up to the Lac du Rillé. Jon also attached Ruby’s trailer bike (with Ruby on-board) to see what difference that made to the battery life.
After a lot of research, we’ve opted for a Gitane Organ’e with the drive on the front wheel and an uprated battery, to give a range of around 70kms.
Why this model?
- Motor on the front wheel makes for easy puncture repairs
- Maintenance is easier and in the event of motor problems, only front wheel usually needs replacing
- Ample power assistance for the routes on our Loire Valley cycling holidays
- Easy controls that can be mastered within ten minutes riding
This is the first e-bike we have ridden on a long ride and after feeling odd at first we soon got used to the way the bike delivers the power. Fitted with simple controls, once you feel your legs pushing more than you want, just up the power meter and the assist kicks in without any hassle.
Of course we tried the hit the max speed and the GPS proved that 26kmph is the lawful maximum assist you’ll receive – and Ruby really enjoyed the speed being towed on the trailer bike!
So the electric bikes are now in our fleet and already pre-booked on our first Loire Valley Cycling Tour. One of the most useful additions on this bike? – a USB socket so you can charge your phone on the move!
